Breeders Cup Classic Preview

Breeders’ Cup Classic Preview

The most anticipated race in the Breeders Cup is the Breeders Cup Classic on Saturday afternoon when the unbeaten Zenyatta will try to make it a perfect 20 for 20. She is the 8-5 morning line favorite in a field of 12 for the $5 million dollar classic.

Make your Breeders Cup Bets right now at SBG Global.

Zenyatta is 19 for 19 in her brilliant career and she will try and retire a perfect 20 for 20. She will be trying to win the Classic for the second straight year. She will start out of post position #8 on Saturday and be ridden by Hall of Fame jockey Mike Smith.

Here is a look at the post position and the morning line odds for Saturday’s Breeders’ Cup Classic.

1. Quality Road 5-1
2. Paddy O’Prado 15-1
3. Haynesfield 12-1
4. First Dude 15-1
5. Blame 9-2
6. Fly Down 15-1
7. Musket Man 20-1
8. Zenyatta 8-5
9. Pleasant Prince 30-1
10. Etched 30-1
11. Espoir City 20-1
12. Lookin At Lucky 6-1

There are three main threats to Zenyatta in the Classic. Blame is the second choice at 9-2 and will start from post position #5. Quality Road is 5-1 and starts from the rail while Lookin at Lucky is 6-1 and starts from the outside in post position #12.

Blame has won five of his last six races and he has jockey Garrett Gomez in the irons. He looks better than he ever has and comes out of Claiborne Farms which is celebrating its 100th anniversary. Quality Road is a horse that has done very little wrong in his career. He has never finished out of the money and he is trained by the best trainer in the world, Todd Pletcher. Lookin at Lucky has lost three times in his career but in each of those losses he got into trouble. If he gets a good trip he should be right there.

The favorite in the Classic is not a guarantee to win. In fact, in Breeders Cup betting history, half of the horses that have won the Classic have gone off at odds of 6-1 or more. If one of the top four horses does not win then perhaps the hard trying Musket Man will finally hit the winner’s circle.

Can Slots Save Horse Racing

Are Slots the Saviour of Horse Racing?

This is the million dollar question.

Just to explain all monies generated by slots a percentage is mandated back into horse racing prize money.
Does it work? you’re dam right it does, take a look at Canada……

Woodbine is a facility second to none, the prize money is stupendous. The likes of US conditioners Steve Assmussen, Wesley Ward James Bond have strong strings stabled their.

A waiting list of 6,000 stall applications tells the story, build it and they will come.

Dresden Raceway, a summer Harness track had its annual stakes day, 14 races each 25k apiece thanks to slots. The irony is, if you go to any Canadian casino you will see coaches full of people from Kentucky, Ohio and the like. If slots were available in those states the racing would be in a far better state.

Until that happens, tracks have to work harder to encourage the younger generation, lots with disposable income to come to the track. Novel promos like live bands, night racing at Churchill are only a stop gap. We all have to do our part we need personalities a demystifying of the form guides and across the board medication control.

Plus lets put a big dosage of FUN back into the game…

A steep task, are we up to it? You’re dam right we are.

More from the “The Horse Whisperer” next week an early look at the Breeders’ Cup and the Prix de le Arc De Triomphe.

First Dude Racehorse

Sometimes, records and victories just elude horses, no matter how well they run. This has been the case for First Dude, the stellar 3-year-old who is trained by Todd Pletcher. The team is looking for a win in the prestigious $1 million Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing, formerly Philadelphia Park, with jockey Ramon Dominguez aboard.

First Dude has had great successes in the past, with a second-place finish in the Preakness, and third-place finishes in the Belmont Stakes, Haskell Invitational, and Travers. The horse is looking very solid for Saturday, especially with what has happened. One of the toughest contenders in the 3-year-old bracket is out of the race scene for the rest of the year, opening up chances for everyone else. Though Afleet Express is expected a full recovery from his suspensory tendon injury, he is out for the remainder of the year.

This does several things for First Dude, obviously, as a tough contender is out of the running. However, there may be a big chance for First Dude in the race on Saturday, given the starting position that was drawn, and the competition that he will be facing. He drew a favorable, very friendly position. First Dude also gets in with 114 pounds, eight pounds less than stakes winners Exhi, A Little Warm and Afleet Again.

Though Lookin At Lucky will be there, it is time for First Dude to claim a very notable victory. All the indicators are lighting up for him. This is a horse that is in pristine shape, delivers quickly down the line speed and handles corners well. With the expert guidance of Dominguez, nothing is impossible. First Dude will break from the outside post, with speed horses Exhi, A Little Warm and Morning Line inside of him. Of course, First Dude can handle the speed, and has plenty of zip for the race.

Start profiting from the Pennslyvania Derby today with our winning horse racing picks from our expert horse handicappers.

Parallels between Horse Racing and Investing

Has it been over thirty-two years when the Affirmed won horse racings triple crown? That was the last thoroughbred to have accomplished the magnificent feat. Over in Versailles, Ky. Win star farm said they had the best probability of ending the drought after they have been breeding a 33 yr. old Bay Colt named Super Saver who won the Derby this year but than faded on the Pimlico trip in Baltimore, Maryland with an 8th place finish in the 2nd stop of the triple crown tour.

So one of the owners Ken Troutt who also owns Dallas, Texas’s Mt. Vernon Investments was certainly let down but certainly used to the rollercoaster rides in the horse racing and investing world especially over the last few years. William Casner the other partner and founder of the telco company Excel Communications purchased the thoroughbred operation on 1400 acres of good ‘ole Kentucky bluegrass in 2000.

For the last 10 years Mount Vernon has been guided by President NicK Merrick whom is being recognized for his skills investing in small-to-mid size emerging hedge fund firms has seen many parallels between picking good investment grade classes and race horses. Since the two depend on a ardent understanding of history and derivation as well as a sense for the skill sets and personalities associated with winning.

Wagering on a great breeder in both finance and horse racing be on target or way out in left field. Certain hedge funds formed by past wall street elitists have turned out to be busts while other funds started by a PH.D. in statistics have seen astronomical growth and excellent returns for investors. “There certainly is a lot of luck involved”

Diversifying is another rule of thumb on the track and in the world of hedge fund investing. Just like with betting on sports you have to do your research look at the live odds and make a well informed and disciplined decision. Without that you may end up shooting for the stars and betting the farm on Bernie Madoffs fund. When the Belmont Stakes came in June Super Saver was taking a break and win star had it’s other prospective horse Drosselmeyer in the running. This thoroughbred colt came around the corner and beat out fly down and pace setter 1st dude to take home the top prize!

So yes horse racing picks and stock market or hedge fund picks really do seem to have a lot of parallels in many obscure ways some intertwined and others not so much with the owners of one investment house simply owning the horse not just betting on it at the track.

Saturday

Belmont Stakes

Belmont Stakes
Saturday, 6:30 pm Eastern – ABC

The 142nd running of the Belmont Stakes odds is on Saturday with a field of 12 horses expected to go to the post. Kentucky Derby runner-up Ice Box is the 3-1 morning line favorite with Preakness runner-up First Dude the second choice with odds of 9-2. Since neither the Kentucky Derby winner nor the Preakness winners are in the race, the Belmont is expected to be very competitive.

Check out odds and matchups for the Belmont Stakes at SBG Global.

Trainer Nick Zito has two horses in the race and they are both serious contenders. Ice Box is the favorite while Fly Down is the third choice at 9-2. Fly Down was the winner of the Dwyer Stakes and he could be the horse to watch on Saturday. He is the son of 2003 Horse of the Year Mineshaft. With Ice Box and Fly Down, Zito has two of the favorites. Zito won the Belmont in 2004 with Birdstone and in 2008 with Da’ Tara but both of those horses were huge longshots. Ice Box will start in post number six and will be ridden by Jose Lezcano while Fly Down will be on his inside in post position number five with jockey John Velazquez.

The last time the Belmont odds did not have either the Derby winner or the Preakness winner was in 2006 when Jazil, trained by Kiaran McLaughlin won the race. McLaughlin will send Uptowncharlybrown in this year’s Belmont.

Here is the field of 12 for Saturday’s Belmont with morning line odds:

1 Dave in Dixie, jockey Calvin Borel, trainer John Sadler, odds: 20-1
2 Spangled Star, jockey Garrett Gomez, trainer Rick Dutrow, odds: 30-1
3 Uptowncharlybrown, jockey R. Maragh, trainer K. McLaughlin, odds 10-1
4 Make Music for Me, jockey Joel Rosario, trainer Alexis Barba, odds: 10-1
5 Fly Down, jockey John Velazquez, trainer Nick Zito, odds: 9-2
6 Ice Box, jockey Jose Lezcano, trainer Nick Zito, odds: 3-1
7 Drosselmeyer, jockey Mike Smith, trainer Bill Mott, odds: 12-1
8 Game On Dude, jockey Martin Garcia, trainer Bob Baffert, odds: 10-1
9 Stately Victor, jockey Alan Garcia, trainer Mike Maker, odds: 15-1
10 Stay Put, jockey Jamie Theriot, trainer Steve Margolis, odds: 20-1
11 First Dude, jockey Ramon Dominguez, trainer Dale Romans, odds: 7-2
12 Interactif, jockey Javier Castellano, trainer Todd Pletcher, odds: 12-1

Tuesday

Wolfson invades Belmont for stakes

Handicappers have learned over the years to pay close attention when Florida-based trainer Marty Wolfson ships horses in to New York for graded stakes. Over the last 18 years - and not including You and I Forever in Monday's Metropolitan Handicap - Wolfson has won eight graded stakes in New York from just 41 starters.

This weekend, Wolfson will bring a mini-army of six to New York to compete in five of the eight stakes to be run Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, Wolfson will send out Stones River in the Grade 2 Brooklyn Handicap. On Saturday, he'll run Jet Propulsion in the Grade 1 Manhattan, Dances With Ashley in the Grade 1 Acorn, Speak Easy Gal and Cherokee Queen in the Grade 1 Just a Game, and Thank You Phillipe in the Grade 2 Woody Stephens.

Stones River, a half-brother to the Grade 1 winner Unbridled Belle, drew post 6 of 8 for the Brooklyn, which will be run at 1 1/2 miles and goes as the last of 10 on Friday.

Stones River is winless in three starts for Wolfson, but he did finish third in a high-class third-level allowance race at Gulfstream on March 3.

"A mile and a half is going to suit him," Wolfson said.

Wolfson is particularly high on Dances With Ashley, who is 4 for 5 in her career with wins on turf and dirt at Calder, on a synthetic surface at the Ocala Breeders' Sales Co., and on dirt at Tampa in the Sophomore Fillies Stakes. Her only loss came in the Grade 3 Old Hat, which was run over a sloppy track.

"It's the way she does it," Wolfson said. "She's got a beautiful stride, she's push-button. That day at Tampa, she came from well out of it. I really like this filly."

John Velazquez will ride Dances With Ashley. Others pointing to the Acorn include Amen Hallelujah, Buckleupbuttercup, Champagne d'Oro, Indian Burn, Much Rejoicing, Quiet Temper, Streaker, and Tanda.

In the Grade 1 Manhattan, Jet Propulsion will attempt 1 1/4 miles for the first time in his 49-race career. Wolfson claimed the horse for $50,000 last December as 6-year-old and has run him four times between a mile and nine furlongs.

"I claimed him for running a distance," Wolfson said.

Jet Propulsion set the pace and lost a three-length lead in the stretch of the Mervin Muniz Jr. Handicap at New Orleans.

"You can't have a front-runner on the Fair Grounds turf," Wolfson said. "He opened up six lengths and he's cruising, but it doesn't matter there, they always close on the outside of that turf."

Wolfson said Jet Propulsion's eighth-place finish in the Miami Mile at Calder on April 25 is a throw-out because "they held his head at the gate and he broke last."

Speak Easy Gal, a front-runner, has gone 4 for 4 since Wolfson and Farnsworth Stables purchased her privately from Gary Contessa. She is a front-runner, while Cherokee Queen, also owned by Farnsworth Stables, comes from well off the pace.

Thank You Phillipe won the statebred stakes at Tampa in his last start. Last fall, he finished a well-beaten second to Buddy's Saint in the Grade 2 Remsen.

Gio Ponti ready for Manhattan

After watching Gio Ponti work a strong five furlongs over the Belmont turf course on Sunday, trainer Christophe Clement confirmed the dual Eclipse Award winner for Saturday's Grade 1 Manhattan Handicap at 1 1/4 miles on turf.

Gio Ponti, working in company with Winchester, went five furlongs in 59.67 seconds. Winchester was given a time of 1:00.05

It was Gio Ponti's first published work since May 9. On May 16, he worked too slow to get his time published. He then missed a scheduled breeze on May 23 because he had coughed a couple of times beforehand. But Clement was quite pleased with the way Gio Ponti breezed Sunday.

"The work today was a very nice work, easy, on the bridle," Clement said. "My only concern would be his fitness. He's probably good enough to overcome that."

Gio Ponti, who won last year's Manhattan as well as three other Grade 1 races and earned the titles of champion turf and older male, has not run since finishing fourth in the Dubai World Cup in March.

Clement said Winchester may be entered in the Manhattan but would only run if the course came up with some give in the ground. Rain was in the forecast for Friday.

Others pointing to the Manhattan include Expansion, Grand Couturier, Interpatation, Just as Well, Pinckney Hill, Marsh Side, Strike a Deal, and Take the Points.

Unrivaled Belle sharp in Phipps drill

One of the most visually impressive workouts turned in Sunday was by Unrivaled Belle, who zipped five furlongs in 59.71 seconds. She started six lengths behind a stablemate and finished a couple in front.

Unrivaled Belle, who defeated Horse of the Year Rachel Alexandra in the La Troienne on April 30, is pointing to the Grade 1 Ogden Phipps here June 12.

Trainer Bill Mott called the work "smooth as silk."

"We planned on her going a little bit fast," Mott said. "Last week, we thought she went a little bit slow, so we thought we'd put a fast work in her. She's a filly capable of doing that. We don't do it every week."

Mott also got another fast work from Proviso, who went four furlongs in 46.63 seconds on the turf Sunday morning in preparation for Saturday's Grade 1 Just a Game.

Nordic Truce heads Hill Prince

The defection of Interactif to the Belmont Stakes had the racing office scrambling to fill Friday's Grade 3, $100,000 Hill Prince Stakes for 3-year-olds on the turf. A field of six was entered, led by undefeated Nordic Truce, but it is unlikely that all six will run. The race was carded as the fourth on the 10-race program.

Lethal Combination, who finished fourth in Saturday's Lamplighter Stakes at Monmouth Park, was one of two horses entered by trainer Kiaran McLaughlin, who is more likely to start Krypton.

Nordic Truce, trained by Clement, is 3 for 3 including victories in the Dania Beach at Gulfstream and Grade 3 Transylvania at Keeneland. He will likely be a heavy favorite under Ramon Dominguez from post 5.

The field, from the rail out, comprises Krypton, Avenging Spirit, Noah's Dream, Gold Medallion, Nordic Truce, and Lethal Combination.

Remand and Six Clicks were entered for the main track.

The 136TH Running Of The Kentucky Derby

The 136TH Running Of The Kentucky Derby

Contenders:

First: American Lion: The son of Tizow has displayed 2 forms of running styles. The preferred is going for the lead and never look back, which will not be the case with 4 or 5 others dueling for the lead. Option 2 will be the logical choice where he stays in striking distance {he has enough speed to do that} and “gradually” gain on the leaders in mid stretch. “Now at this point he definitely owns a third gear to use his stamina and sprint away from the frontrunners and at the same time turn back any closers.

Second: Devil May Care: He fits here as a stalker and was going to my first choice. However, due to his unruliness at the gate, he might be a very risky proposition especially in a twenty horse field.

Third: Ice Box: He should be approximately twenty five lengths at some point during the race and will be closing fast to hit the board by benefiting from a hot pace.

Fourth: Sidney’s Candy: He loves to go to the lead from the get go, but post twenty severely compromise that scenario. If he learns to rate for the first time, he will be right there.

Kentucky Derby

While you can watch the 136th annual running of the Kentucky Derby this Saturday on NBC Sports, there is only one place worth betting the fastest two minutes in sports. The Derby field is wide open this year with eight horses at 12/1 or less, led by favorite Lookin' At Lucky. Lookin' At Lucky's trainer, Bob Baffert, is in search of his fourth Kentucky Derby victory, while perennial leading Trainer Todd Pletcher, with four entries in this year's Derby, is in search of his first win.

"This year's Kentucky Derby field is one of the most competitive I've seen, the Derby draws over 100,000 fans and 40 million TV viewers and is one of the country's most celebrated sporting events. As the first leg in horse racing's coveted Triple Crown, it's also one of the biggest betting days of the year."

We have a lot of different plays that may come up for the big race but we always want to be sure before we throw out some crazy wager ideas including win/place/show, exacta, trifecta and head-to-head horse, jockey and trainer props, as well as cross-sport props. The oddsmakers are the most creative in enticing bettors to place wagers that they normally wouldnt even dream of, and they'll be harnessing that creativity as they continue to post a slew of Kentucky Derby props leading up to this weekend's big race.

Live Horse Racing Odds for the Triple Crown and other special thoroughbred racing events

The Florida Derby

The Florida Derby, Gulfstream Park's eleventh race today offers an interesting prospect in number 11, Radiohead, owned and trained by the same connections to Big Brown, the 2008 Florida Derby winner and subsequent Kentucky Derby champ.

Radiohead was four lengths off a victory over Looking at Lucky in last falls Breeder's Cup Juvenile before being turned over to Richard Dutrow jr.

In today's race number 7, Rule, is the deserving favorite after scoring four straight victories for trainer Todd Pletcher. That could put Radiohead close to his morning line of 3-1.

Drawing some attention will be number 2, Lentenor, a full brother to Kentucky Derby winner Barbaro, also with the same owner and trainer. Edgar Prado ,Barbaro's former jockey, will be aboard Radiohead today. Post time for the Florida Derby is scheduled for 6:20 PM. William Payor

Horse Racing Strategies

Horse Racing Strategies is an art that we have taken down to a science. Researching and knowing the horses well beyond what the Daily Racing Form can tell you is our specialty. However it is necessary to know extensive details on the jockey, past racing results, current odds, and a ton of other statisical information.

Another important thing to examine is the impost which is known as the weight that the horse is carrying in a race and our assigned based upon the handicap of the horse which is designated by the racing secretary.

Arbitrage Sports Handicapping

There are a few different ways to profitably bet on horses we use the arbitrage horse handicapping strategy of working the lines often times at different sportsbooks. When you find a bet that can be placed at two books with differing odds because their clients have wagered different amounts and changed the spread they are offering as they don't want to encounter too much counter party risk. So we will help to point you into the more favorable spread and guide you through the arbitrage sports betting strategy that often results in a profitable wager.

The idea is to ensure a high probability by getting the racing pick to fall within your range and if it doesn't you are only losing the premium (juice) to the house.

(example using points for clarity) So if Dr. Davidowitz has Never Loses as a 2 point favorite, and Cooper has Giddy up as a 2 point favorite. If a player bets Giddy Up at the first sportsbook, and Dr. Davidowitz at the second sportsbook, the resulting outcome will be that you win both wagers if either sides wins by 1 point or less and push if its anything less.
